| The Agriturismo Vegliena is an old stone farmhouse in close proximity to the Via Cassia, and the ancient pilgrim's road of Via Francigena. Coming from the north take the A1 highway (called Autostrada del Sole) and, leaving it at Certosa exit in Florence, then head towards Siena. From there follow the SR2 (Via Cassia) up to 181 km turn right, and the second rural house is Vegliena. I hope to see you soon! The farmhouse is of a typical Senese design and lies beneath Monte Amiata in the centre of a region characterised by a multiplicity of historic beauty and landscapes. The Agriturismo Vegliena is in a splendid position between the ancient village of San Quirico d'Orcia with its marvellous Romanesque church, La Collegiata, and the historic botanical garden, and Vignoni and the medieval village of Bagno Vignoni with its thermal pools which are open all year long. Close by is Castiglione d'Orcia with its fascinating Piazza, "Il Vecchietta"; the thermal pools of Bagni San Filippo; the historic walled town of Monticchiello; the ancient Corsignano (later named Pienza), the Utopian city which owes its beauty to the humanistic dream of Pope Pius II ( Piccolomini) who was born in Corsignano in 1405; Montalcino with its fortress and its famous Brunello wine, and Montepulciano, rich with vestiges of its Etruscan origins and its world famous wine,"Nobile di Montepulciano". There are also some splendid hiking trails in the Val d'Orcia National Park which cross the estate. Here we have Siena in all of its splendid beauty. |
